The Happiness Shines as Bright as the Night Light in Tambolosu Village

February 6, 2024

In the realm of sustainable energy, Photovoltaic Solar Power (PLTS) emerges as a transformative force, breaking free from fossil fuel dependency and mitigating environmental issues like pollution. Nestled in the heart of the Laonti District in South Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi Province, Tambolosu village stands as a shining example of embracing renewable energy through the provision of a solar power plant. The ACCESS Project has brought light to Tambolosu and 21 other locations in Indonesia with the construction of PLTS.

In the waning months of 2023, the PLTS construction in Tambolosu was completed. This milestone heralded a new era for the village, as 278 households, one Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME), and nine public facilities embarked on a trial to experience the brilliance of electric light. The trials sparked a cascade of captivating anecdotes from residents like Mr. Benhur, the Village Secretary, who expressed gratitude. He reflected on the term “Merdeka” (independence) in Tambolosu, noting that the village had never witnessed such bright condition since the country gained independence decades ago.

Lusiani, a 34-year-old housewife and MSME operator, echoed similar sentiments. “With the PLTS lamps, our tasks as housewives become more manageable,” she remarked. As a cake business owner, she highlighted the ease potential of plugging in and completing tasks effortlessly. Her narrative concluded with a hopeful smile, envisioning the possibility of affording electronic equipment in the future.

The most heart warming reaction unfolded among the children when the trial lighting proved successful. Their jubilant cries of “Horeeeee menyalami lampu, terangmi kampungta, enakmi kita belajar, Bisami kita nonton TV” (“Hooray, light up the lights, brighten the village, it's good for us to study, we can watch TV”) encapsulated the newfound happiness permeating Tambolosu.

Gratitude, joy, and happiness radiated from the faces of Tambolosu villagers who, for many years, had been deprived of the brilliance of electric light. Tahir, the Head of Tambolosu Village, shared his hope that all PLTS customers would uphold their commitment to pay electricity fees monthly. He further urged all stakeholders to safeguard and maintain these lights, ensuring they continue to illuminate and enhance the lives of the village community, creating a sustainable and brighter future for Tambolosu.
