PPSDM KEBTKE Collaborates with UNDP ACCESS to Recruit Community to Create Centralized PLTS Operator

November 4, 2022

The Center for Human Resources Development in Electrical Power, New and Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation (PPSDM KEBTKE) collaborated with UNDP Access to organize Technical Training and Certification for Centralized Solar Power Plant (PLTS) Operation and Maintenance for Operators (Batch III) in Collaboration With UNDP Access. The event took place offline from June 2 to June 15, 2022, at the PPSDM KEBTKE campus, located at Jalan Poncol Raya No. 39, Ciracas, East Jakarta (6/2/2022).

During the event, the Head of the Environment Unit at UNDP Indonesia, Aretha Aprilia, expressed full support for the government's efforts in environmental management, including its extraordinary biodiversity. These initiatives translate into various policies, programs, and projects related to environmental conservation, poverty alleviation, and clean energy development, including the ACCESS Project.

The training was part of a series of training and certification sessions for local operators in Indonesia, totaling 50 participants. Of the 50 operators, 46 came from 23 target villages of the ACCESS project, 50% of them were female operators, and 4 participants were from villages outside the ACCESS project area, recommended by the district government. "So far, 30 local operators have participated in the training and have been certified as Off-Grid PLTS operators in Batches 1 and 2," Aretha said.

The third batch of training was attended by 18 participants, eight of whom were female. In addition to ACCESS project operators, three participants from villages outside the ACCESS target area also attended. Their participation guarantees affordable, sustainable, and accessible electricity services.

Aretha further emphasized that the readiness of these operators would be a critical component in operating PLTS. It is planned to commence construction in 2022. By 2023, the goal is to provide sustainable clean energy to more than 3,000 families in East Nusa Tenggara, Southeast Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, and Central Kalimantan. "Congratulations to the operators. Maximize your learning during the first nine days, including the visit to the Tunda Island PLTS, which will prepare you for the certification exam."

Laode Sulaeman, Head of PPSDM KEBTKE, inaugurated the event in his speech, stating that PLTS is an evolving technology that requires skilled and competent personnel for its development and operation. Therefore, UNDP ACCESS, funded by KOICA, collaborated with PPSDM KEBTKE to organize training and certification for prospective centralized PLTS operators in various regions.

This initiative has already held two batches, with the first batch taking place from March 7 to March 19, 2022, involving 19 participants, and the second batch from March 24 to April 6, 2022, with 11 participants. All participants from these two batches not only successfully completed the training but also demonstrated competence after undergoing certification. The current training session marks the third batch.

Laode added, "My hope is that through this series of activities, we can produce reliable, skilled, and competent operators who excel in all aspects of centralized PLTS operation and maintenance. This will enable them to apply their knowledge to PLTS installations in their respective villages and provide benefits to their communities."
