UMMA PANDAI Women's Group Empowers Dikira Village with Ginseng Herbal Medicine Initiative
In the inspiring effort to uplift women’s live, the UMMA PANDAI women's group in Dikira Village, Southwest Sumba Regency, has embarked on a journey to establish a ginseng herbal medicine business. With seed funding from the ACCESS project, which aimed at fostering local entrepreneurship or economic development, the long-held dream among these women in Dikira Village is becoming into reality.
The UMMA PANDAI group, recognizing their potential in producing ginseng herbal medicine, submitted a proposal through the BUMDesa PEMERHATI of Dikira Village. Their vision was to create a sustainable business utilizing locally sourced ingredients and the newly installed communal Solar Power Plant (PLTS) by ACCESS UNDP. This initiative not only harness Dikira’s natural resources but also leverage renewable energy to enhance productivity.
The UMMA PANDAI group was awarded the necessary funding to kickstart their venture. These funds were allocated towards procuring essential equipment and raw materials. The group's dedication and hard work are bearing fruit. The ginseng herbal medicine business is now operational, offering a potential boost to the local economy and providing a new source of income for the women involved. This enterprise not only strengthens their households financially but also serves as a model for other women's groups.
Electricity, supplied by the communal PLTS, has proven to be a crucial element in this initiative. The reliable power supply enables the women to operate their equipment efficiently and ensures adequate lighting, which is vital for the business's development.
Yaetina, a member of UMMA PANDAI, expressed the group's collective enthusiasm and optimism. “Electricity has changed the way we realize the vision of our business in the village. We firmly believe that as women, we now have the opportunity to grow and develop,” she said.
The UMMA PANDAI women's group stands as an example to the power of community-driven initiatives and the impact of sustainable energy solutions. The journey exemplifies how local resources and renewable energy can be harnessed to drive economic growth and empower women.
